In Valais, the grape growing has a rich tradition two millennia . The art of cultivating the noble plant and raise its divine drink comes from the Roman legionaries who brought in the Rhone Valley varietals many , sometimes from distant lands . Thanks to exceptional climatic conditions , on average 2400 hours of sunshine per year and precipitation below 600 mm, the Valais with its varied terroirs , composed of schist , gneiss , limestone or granite , now houses a wide range varietals .
